The Differences Between Blown and Cast Stretch Film

Stretch film is a great tool commonly used in warehouses and distribution across the world. Used to wrap products on pallets to keep each item in place as it moves across the supply chain. With a secure pallet, you can minimize product loss, pallet tampering, and employee injury.

As you are shopping around for your next pallet of stretch film, there are a few thing you should be aware of. One of the major pieces of knowledge to carry would be the difference between cast and blown film. Each of these offer there advantages, but also come with some disadvantages as well.

Cast Stretch Wrap

Advantages

  • Less expensive than blown film

  • Higher clarity to see through

  • Unwinds quieter than blown (great for protecting worker’s hearing)

  • Two-sided cling allowing wrap to stay secure

Disadvantages

  • Less load holding power

  • Less tear resistance

  • Lower memory than blown film

Blown Stretch Wrap

Advantages

  • Greater load and stretch capacity than cast

  • Higher memory when stretched

  • Better tear resistance against loads with sharp edges

Disadvantages

  • Higher cost than cast

  • Less clarity

  • Extremely noisy when unwrapped

December comes every year. Along with it come a few days that many look forward to celebrating. Here at MDM, there is one more day that means a lot to a few. That day is December 6th. While it is not Christmas, New Years, or one of the other holidays observed, it is special to us. It is the day that our owner, Mark Mendoza, began the journey to build his own packaging company.

Mark has taken MDM from a one-man operation to a thriving team who are knowledgable and passionate to help their customers find the best packaging solutions to meet their needs and budget. We take pride in offering only the highest in quality service at every interaction. We believe that this is what has set us apart from the rest of the competition and bring the success we’ve seen as a company. That success would not be possible without the people around us. To our vendors, thank you for partnering with us to fulfill the packaging needs to those who call on MDM. To our customers, we are beyond thankful that you trust us with helping get your products where they need to go, safe and sound,

Catching As Much Attention As the Little League World Series

The Little League World Series seeks to determine which country has the best little league national team. It takes 10-12 year boys who just love the game from across the globe and places them on a world stage for their home countries to cheer them on. This annual, high stakes tournament attracts attention from media outlets and baseball diehards all over as they watch 16 teams whittle down to one champion.

Amidst all of the intensity of competition, a lot of attention is drawn off the field as of late. In fact, what is happening is far from baseball related, but it is just as much a part of the Little League World Series is as the phrase “Play ball!” or the National Anthem.

We, of course, are talking about the downhill sledding that happens on the hills behind the field. And this sledding is happening on your typical toboggan. These high-speed, down-hill runs are taking place atop scrap pieces of corrugated sheets (more commonly known as cardboard).

And this isn’t just for the kids either! The Chicago Cubs were recently in attendance at the Little League World Series and joined in on the fun! ESPN got footage of Joe Maddon, Cubs Manager, and Anthony Rizzo, Cubs First Baseman, shredding downhill as well.

From shipping, to moving, or storing, we know that corrugated sheets and boxes are highly versatile in their uses. But this has to be one of our favorites! So take that stack of boxes you’ve meaning to recycle all these months, find a slick hill, and have some fun!
